Strong and Beautiful
About Me
I'm Karla, the designer behind Athena Designs by K. I build websites, learning tools, and digital archives that are as useful as they are welcoming.
My Back Story
With a career that began in the 1980s, my journey has always been rooted in creating visually compelling stories, exploring the possibilities of early computers—from the Commodore 64 to mainframes—and nurturing a deep interest in local and family history.
Raised as a farmer's daughter with a barnyard full of animals, I learned early the value of curiosity, resourcefulness, and care. Over the years, I've expanded my expertise across education, crafting, and historical research.
My mission is to blend creativity with functionality, ensuring each project not only meets expectations but exceeds them.
What I Do
Education
Interactive science, technology, and math resources, plus education data tools that turn complex numbers into something families and educators can use.
Design & Crafting
A background in fabric, sewing, and handmade goods shapes every project I take on: practical, durable, and made with care.
History & Family Research
Genealogy and local history projects that preserve the people, places, and stories of the past for the next generation.
Let's Work Together
Have a project, a story to preserve, or an idea you'd like to bring to life? I'd love to hear about it.
